'Youths Need to Know Climate Change'

National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC) recently engaged Rotary Club of Bwaila to assist with a climate change awareness and tree planting exercise in a bid make youths know issues of climate change.

The exercise which was jointly funded by Press Trust and Bwaila Rotary Club took place at Air Wing Primary School in Lilongwe.

The event, according to a press release from Bwaila Rotary Club was aimed to enhance understanding of climate change through active involvement and participation of young people in climate change mitigation initiatives.

“This event advanced the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 2007 Bali program of action, an addendum to UNFCCC which aims at effective response to climate change through mitigation and adaptation while on the other hand building capacity and raising awareness on how we can adapt to effects of climate change,” reads the release in part.

Guest of Honour at the event, Patrick Mhango from Press Trust said the youth are vital tool to involve if the war against deforestation is to be won. Hence he urged youths to be proactive in advocating for climate change related issues.
